Live Fashion Illustration at The MU/SE Society X Longines Private Event

It was such a delight to illustrate some of the lovely ladies at the recent THE MU/SE SOCIETY X LONGINES private event.

When Longines asked for blue flowers to be designed and featured with the illustrations of their guests at the recent THE MU/SE SOCIETY X LONGINES event, I couldn’t be happier. Blue is their brand colour and my favourite hue too.

I had painted the monochrome flowers in watercolour in such a way that they look transparent and almost glass-like to reflect Longines’ DNA of timeless elegance.

Huge thanks to the Longines Team for entrusting me with the entire design process and for having me as part of this wonderful event.

Live Portrait at Ruby and Noby’s Wedding

IMG_1999.jpeg

What a delight it was to be part of the celebration of love at the wedding of Ruby and Noby at The Clifford Pier. Drawing all the beautiful (and equally dashing) guests in this magnificent venue doesn’t really seemed like work, even if it was more than 6 hours of non-stop drawing past midnight.

I just had to paint this on the spur of moment when I saw the lovely bride walked up the aisle in one of the most beautiful wedding ceremony that I have ever seen. Reminded me of an unforgettable scene In The Crazy Rich Asians.

I also had the pleasure of meeting and sketching Alexander Gotama who designed and styled this gorgeous wedding in one of Singapore’s iconic heritage venue, The Clifford Pier. What a wedding it was!

Of all the gorgeous ladies and charming men that I sketched that night, the one who stole my heart was  no other than this little boy. Isn’t he an absolute darling?

Live Floral Painting in Chinese-Style at Rolex’ CNY Gala Dinner

live-event-illustrator-floral-painting.jpeg

It was such a lovely experience painting these peonies for Rolex at the beautiful St Regis’ Caroline’s Mansion.  The CNY celebration dinner had a chinoiserie theme and hence the blue peonies. Though peonies are usually painted in red and pink in Chinese paintings, blue is a rather rare choice but I love how they turned out.

Considered by many as “the king of flowers”, the peony (牡丹 mudan) is one of the most prized flowers in the Chinese culture for its beauty and its representation of wealth and honour. This was painted in the 寫意 (Xieyi) Chinese painting style which is more freehand and expressive.

For those of you who do not read Chinese, the character above is 福 (Fu) which means “Good Fortune”. It is one of the most auspicious Chinese characters you would find being displayed or used frequently during the Chinese New Year celebrations. So when 福 is featured together with peonies, it is an even greater blessing.

Other than Peonies, Chrysanthemums are also very popular during the Chinese New Year celebrations. Especially the multi-petal golden hue ones which represent abundance of wealth and prosperity, joy and optimism. So how can I not paint them too for the CNY Gala Dinner.

It is said that if the Narcissus 水仙 blooms on the Chinese New Year Day, you will have wealth and fortune the whole year through. So I just had to include this auspicious flower in my repertoire of Chinese painted flowers for Rolex.

Live Digital Fashion Illustration at Singapore Tatler X Dolce&Gabbana Private Event

20181015_174953.jpeg

Drawing elegant ladies in their fabulous outfits while seated on a plush velvet sofa surrounded by the most sumptuous clothings and accessories may sound more like a fashion illustrator’s sweet dream than a job. Well yes, you got that right!

A huge thank you to Dolce & Gabbana for having me at your private event with Singapore Tatler. Though it was almost non-stop drawing for the two days, I had a most wonderful time.

Do you remember how the Dolce & Gabbana Devotion Bags made their debut being flown in by drones in their Fall 2018 RTW show? Similarly for their recent private event with Singapore Tatler, fashion portraits were done with the most advanced digital drawing gadgets - the Apple iPadPro and Apple Pencil. This hardworking drawing tool served me well for 7-hours of non-stop drawing.

Here are some of the fashion portraits that were sketched and printed out on the spot, much to the delight of the guests during the 2-day event.

I couldn’t help but have also included a couple more shots of their beautiful boutique in ION Orchard. The space is just simply beautiful!

I had the pleasure of live-sketching again recently and this time it was for a private event for Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Collection. Thank you, Cortina Watch Team, for having me. Scroll down to see more of fashion portraits that I did for some of the wonderful guests that evening.

When I first started my freelance illustrating career, the thought of sketching and painting in front of an audience had seemed like the most daunting thing to me. I am actually quite an introvert and a rather private person so I had never relished being in the public eye.

But surprisingly, I found that I had honestly enjoyed the live-illustration sessions. I guess that it must be because I truly love what I do and there is nothing more rewarding than sharing my love for art. And the best thing....I get to meet some of the most interesting and nicest people out there.

Private Dinner for L'Heure Du Diamant by Chopard X Cortina Watch

IMG_5836.JPG

It was a lovely evening drawing live for the VIP guests of Chopard and Cortina Watch at their presentation of the exquisite L'Heure Du Diamant collection. Accompanied by beautiful music and drawing amidst the exuberant flowers and greenery of the Gardens by the Bay, it was a very special  night indeed.
